- New Encinitas
- Leucadia
Originally part of a 1669 master plan to connect California's inhabitants with religion and schooling, Encinitas hosts 62.000 residents.
Named for its Oak Trees the area was called- "Encina Canada," Spanish for "Hills of Live Oaks." Encinitas was Later founded in 1881 by Jabez Pitcher when he came to San Diego and filed a claim for 160 acres.
Leucadia-Founded in 1870 by Englishmen who named the area after one of the Greek Isles and means "Isle of Paradise" or "Place of Shelter." Many of the the five-acre tracts were named after Greek gods. Leucadia is famous for its huge eucalyptus trees that line the main thoroughfare on PCH.
Cardiff by the Sea -was originally an 1875 homestead off the San Elijo Lagoon. Later the area was named from Cardiff in Wales. Soon the area was subdivided into streets and lots. The area is known for its charming hillside ocean view homes.
Olivenhain -was created when in 1884 a small group of German immigrants called the area their home. Olivenhain literally means "olive grove" and today is full of horse pastures.
Historically, Encinitas runs along the ocean and later expanded into the aforementioned areas.
New Encinitas - centers on El Camino Real ("The Kings Highway" founded by the early missionaries from Spain).
Today Encinitas is a charming community of some 60,000 full-time residents. A diverse assortment of housing choices present themselves at $200,000 to more than $1 million for an Encinitas estate home.
